Get this copy of the zine "Before it was Durham, it was Ashusheer"! Many local staples have Native American namesakes: the Eno river, the town Saxapahaw, Occoneechee Speedway, Shakori Hills. This zine reimagines the Durham area pre-colonization, pieced together by settler’s accounts and journals, early land surveys of the area, war maps, and excavation records from archeologists. The area which is now Durham is referenced often as Adshusheer, although its exact location is lost to history. It would have been populated by Native American Piedmont tribes, Mainly Eno and Shakori people.
The reverse side contains an artist interpretation of Durham pre-colonization! (You can get a print of the map here.)
